Well.... We've made it, OVER 1000 total views. There may be some questions as to whether Google analytics is actually correct, but whatever, we'll go with it. I think it's pretty cool that anyone wants to read my rambles anyway.
For this post I have not put a picture because I want to keep you in suspense, and putting a picture of a question mark looks stupid... to me at least.
But, I am excited to announce a new spontaneous random micro series that will occur when I feel like it. Titled elegantly and simply....... Virginia. I will talk about major companies based in Virginia, or just places in the state I find interesting. Of course choosing Virginia because this is my home state and the home state of 90% of my current viewers.
I feel like many people don't try to get to know much about their home state, unless it's really small. When people go on vacation, they will usually go abroad, to other states, or even other countries, instead of looking to what's just a few hours away. I think Virginia is a very cool state that deserves a little recognition.
Going on a recent weekend trip to southwestern Virginia. As Virginians we'll usually call anywhere west of us "the mountains." Southwestern Virginia can be sometimes a depressing, but beautiful place. The landscape, skyline and mountains are beautiful. Need proof?
Ok, enough of me priding myself in my photos. But throughout these bucolic mountains lies a land of forgotten industry and potential. There are many abandoned buildings and countless shuttered factories. Yet, some industry remains in this sparsely populated landscape.
Because of this long preamble I don't think I'll be able to do a consolidated article on any one thing but I wanted to point out that I will be writing about places as well as things.
The Ramble
However.....I will give you a little ramble. If you look at the second to last photo above you might be able to see that that is pretty Rocky terrain. If you haven't been to a typical mountain in Virginia, they are usually pretty green and have normal sized trees, but this mountain is a little different. On buffalo mountain you will encounter a landscape and plant life characteristic of places that have a much higher elevation. It has a rocky terrain and short, prairie like plants. However Buffalo Mountain Virginia only has an elevation of 3971 feet. The Buffalo Mountain Area Natural Preserve is home to rare plants and animals. The preserve is also the exclusive home of a mealybug called Puto Kosztarabi. Anyway, it's pretty cool and has really awesome views of the land around it, as it is the tallest point in that area. You should go see it. Note: Buffalo Mountain Area Natural Preserve is not even close to being the tallest point in Virginia.
